Two Decades of Regional Cooperation: NEDA Unveils Strategic Vision at 20th Anniversary Press Conference

NEDA held a press conference on the occasion of its 20th anniversary under the theme "Two Decades of Cooperation Towards a Sustainable Future". The event was led by Mr. Perames Vudthitornetiraks, President of NEDA, and Colonel (Ret.) Dr. Saranyu Viriyavejakul, Vice President of NEDA. In his opening remarks, Mr. Perames emphasized NEDA’s pivotal role in fostering sustainable development through a synergistic approach and enhancing cooperation across the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).

Over the past two decades, NEDA has implemented 55 financial and technical cooperation projects with a total value of 24,189.43 million baht, and 48 capacity-building initiatives worth 36.90 million baht. Looking ahead, NEDA aims to advance its agenda through cross-border value creation, aligned with its 20-year strategic framework.

The agency also showcased key development projects across four main partner countries:

  • Cambodia: Ongoing projects include the improvement of National Roads NR67 and NR68. New initiatives under development include the Second Stung Bot Border Checkpoint Project, upgrades to NR57, and the Livable, Resilient and Water Secure Cities Investment Program (Tranche 2).
  • Lao PDR: Current projects include the construction of the Fifth Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge and upgrades to Route R12. Upcoming projects involve the Chiangman–Luang Prabang Bridge and a second water supply system development.
  • Myanmar and Timor-Leste: Ongoing efforts include the improvement of Yangon’s power system and enhancement of maternal and child health services under the BEmONC project, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Mr. Perames concluded with a forward-looking statement on NEDA’s financial cooperation strategies, including plans to issue a social bond in Q3 2025 to support socially beneficial projects. The agency also intends to pursue financial collaborations using major currencies (USD, Euro) for non-bordering countries, develop frameworks for climate-resilient projects, and promote investment partnerships through public-private partnerships (PPP) and blended finance models to enhance project readiness and attract private sector involvement.

The event was held at Prik Yuak Restaurant, Bangkok, on May 16, 2025.
