NEDA Conducts Field Visit to Monitor Progress of Route No. 12 (R12) Improvement Project, Thakhek–Napao Border Checkpoint Section, Lao PDR
Lao People’s Democratic Republic, 22 January 2026 – Mr. Kirati Veruwan, Vice President of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Public Organization) (NEDA), together with a delegation, joined Mr. Sysouphanh Chansavat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Roads, Ministry of Public Works and Transport of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and his delegation, as well as project supervision consultants and construction contractors under both contracts of the Route No. 12 (R12) Improvement Project, Thakhek–Napao Border Checkpoint Section, Lao PDR, in conducting a site inspection to monitor project progress. The inspection covered pavement improvement works, construction of rest areas, improvement of access roads to tourist attractions, and enhancement of the Napao International Checkpoint. The project is expected to be completed by early 2028.
This project constitutes a financial cooperation initiative between the Government of Thailand, through NEDA, and the Lao PDR, aimed at enhancing transport connectivity among Thailand, the Lao PDR, Viet Nam, and China, and supporting regional linkage under the framework of economic cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).
