NEDA Discusses Challenges Affecting Implementation of R12 Project in Laos

On August 18, 2026, Mr. Kirati Veruwan, Vice President of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Public Organization) (NEDA), and its delegation joined Mr. Phitsaphonh Philavong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Roads, Ministry of Public Works and Transport of The Lao People's Democratic Republic, and his delegation, together with representatives of the Ministry of Finance of The Lao People's Democratic Republic, for a meeting to discuss implementation challenges, engineering obstacles, detailed design issues, and the impact of adjustments in the prices of goods and services caused by higher fuel costs resulting from the global geopolitical situation, including the conflict involving Islamic Republic of Iran, the United States, and Israel. The meeting also considered solutions to the issues and compliance with conditions stipulated in the Financial Assistance Agreement (FAA), with the aim of ensuring that the Route No. 12 (R12) Improvement Project on the Thakhek to Na Phao border checkpoint in Laos can be completed in accordance with its objectives within the 30-month construction contract period. The meeting was held at the Public Works and Transport Department of Kham Muan sub-district in Laos.
