NEDA Meets with Governor of Baucau Province on the BEmONC Project

Baucau, Timor-Leste, 15 August 2025 — At the Authority of Baucau (PAM), Mr. Perames Vudthitornetiraks, President of NEDA, together with his delegation, representatives of the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili, and UNFPA officials, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Veneranda E. M. Lemos Martins, President of the Authority of Baucau and Governor of Baucau Province.

During the meeting, Mr. Perames expressed his appreciation for the collaboration under the BEmONC Project, which represents NEDA’s first health sector cooperation initiative in Timor-Leste. He emphasized that this project is of great importance to the well-being of women and children, particularly in providing safe conditions for childbirth and maternal care. He further highlighted that sustainable development in healthcare enables broader access to safe medical services, improves quality of life, and contributes to Timor-Leste’s long-term socio-economic development.

In response, Dr. Veneranda conveyed her sincere gratitude to NEDA and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting and coordinating with all relevant local agencies to ensure the successful construction of the two BEmONC centers in Baguia and Quelicai. She pledged to oversee the project’s progress, ensure proper maintenance after completion, and strengthen the capacity of local health personnel. She also confirmed the allocation of provincial resources to sustain the centers’ operations, ensuring that the development will be genuinely long-lasting.
