What are the current assistance projects extended by NEDA to the neighboring countries?  Which types of projects are they?

Answer

At present, NEDA has granted financial assistance to 9 projects in 3 neighboring countries, equal to total budgets of Baht 5,512.42 Million, mainly infrastructure projects (transportation), comprising:

1. Chiang Rai – Kunming via Lao PDR Road Improvement Project (R3), in the total distance of 84 kilometers, is under total loan of Baht 1,385 Million.  It is a connection with the North-South Economic Corridor under the Greater Mekong Sub-regional (GMS) Project to facilitate road transportation between Thailand and Southern China for enhanced opportunities in trade, investment and tourism in the region.

2. Wattay International Airport Improvement Project is under total financial assistance of Baht 320 Million, comprising loan of Baht 224 Million, and grant of Baht 96 Million.  The project is aimed at upgrading the Wattay International Airport to accommodate larger aircraft, for the more convenient and safer air transportation between Laos and other countries in the region, for greater opportunities in trade, investment and tourism in the region.

3. Railway Construction from Friendship Bridge (Nong Khai) to Ban Thanaleng, of about 3.5 kilometers long, is under total financial assistance of Baht 197 Million, comprising loan of Baht 137.90 Million, and grant of Baht 59.10 Million.  It will facilitate transportation of goods between Thailand and Laos, via rail connection between Nong Khai Railways Station and Thanaleng Railways Station in Laos, which markedly reduce the transportation costs.

4. Houi Kon / Muang Ngen – Pak Beng Road Improvement Project is under total financial assistance of Baht 840 Million, comprising loan of Baht 588.00 Million, and grant of Baht 252 Million.  The project will construct the Huay Kron highway, stretching from Nan Province, Northern Thailand, to Muang Nguen, Xai Buri province, to Ban Pak Beng in Laos, in the total distance of 50 kilometers.  It will serve as a strategic route connecting Thailand and Laos with other countries in the sub-region, through connection with the R3 Highway Project.  The project will enhance trade, investment and tourism between Northern Thailand and Laos.

5. Construction of Drainage System and T2 Road Improvement Projects in Vientiane, Lao PDR is under total financial assistance of Baht 160 Million, comprising loan of Baht 112 Million, and grant of Baht 48 Million.  It will construct a drainage pipeline of 2,700 meters long, and a road of 6 kilometers long in order to prevent flooding and to facilitate commuting between Vientiane and the Wattay International Airport.

6. Pakse Airport Improvement Project is under total financial assistance of Baht 320 Million, comprising loan of Baht 224 Million, and grant of Baht 96 Million.  There will be Improvement of Pakse Airport to reach international standard, in order to accommodate larger airplanes.  It will enhance economic expansion, trade, investment and tourism in Southern Laos, which borders to Northeastern Thailand.

7. Trat / Koh Kong – Sre Ambel Road Improvement Project (R48) is under total loan of Baht 867.80 Million.  It is aimed at constructing an asphalt road of approximately 152 kilometers, to connect Trat Province (Thailand) to Koh Kong and Srae Ambel to promote trade and investment along Eastern coastal provinces of Thailand and Southern Cambodia.


8. National Road No. 67 Construction Project is under total loan of Baht 1,300 Million, to improve highway number 67 of about 131 kilometers long.  It will connect Chong Sa Ngam border pass in Si Sa Ket Province of Thailand with Siem Reap Province of Thailand, where a landmark destination of Cambodia is located (Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom).  The highway improvement project will facilitate trade, investment and tourism between Northeastern Thailand and Central Cambodia.

9. Road Construction Project from Tanaosri Mountain in Thailand to Myawaddy covers the total distance of 17 kilometers, under a grant of Baht 122.62 Million.  It will connect Thailand and Myanmar, as part of a highway between Thailand, Myanmar and India.
